You won’t find an abundance of online information on Back Beach; maybe the locals want to keep it a secret. And who could blame them? This beach, with its black volcanic sand is popular with surfers and sand-boarders but low on crowds. There’s a big sand dune that kids of all ages ride down on boogie boards. Wade towards Sugar Loaf Marine Park at low tide for a relaxing jaunt. Do take care when swimming or surfing as there are strong currents (rips) that can be dangerous if you are not experienced. You can access the beach via the Coastal Walkway. Dogs welcome.
