Lake Wakatipu

The third largest lake in New Zealand, this lightning shaped natural wonder occupies a single, glacier carved trench and is surrounded by majestic mountains. A breath - taking sight to behold, visitors to this place will get to gaze on the highest peak of Mount Earnslaw, which stretches to about three thousand miles above sea level. Maori legend speaks about a monster named Matau, which lives in the heart of the lake, and its heart-beat produces the small tides the lake is famous for. Stay in any of our three hotels within the region and it's a short commute to enjoy the natural beauty and wonder of this Lake Wakatipu.
