To have an entire museum assigned for your works alone is a big deal. Len Lye is the first New Zealand artist to be granted this honour. It began in 1980 when Len transferred his copyrights to the Len Lye Foundation. That foundation then entered into an agreement with the New Plymouth City Council that would take responsibly for housing and displaying the art. Len was one of New Zealand’s first modern artists. He studied Maori and Aboriginal art, and his own works showcase this knowledge.
