Touted as a cross between “a museum and a playground”, because of its historical legacy and adoption of the modern, Shantytown is unique. History buffs will be interested in this erstwhile mining town for its relics dating between 1850 and 1940, photographs, gold mining equipment, furniture, Chinese relics and vintage clothing. Sieve the waters for gold or hitch a ride on the steam train—whatever the activity, it’s very memorable.
