The hilly and forested area of Penang Hill comprising of Western Hill, Bukit Lakshmana, Tiger Hill, Flagstaff Hill and Government Hill is the first colonial hill station developed in Peninsular Malaysia. A trip to the top provides breath-taking views of the whole island. The mountains of Langkawi and north Kedah can be seen on a clear day from the top.
The best way to reach the summit is via the funicular train. Built in 1923, it is one of the world’s oldest funicular systems with a 2,007 m long track that climbs the hill at a slow 30 minute pace.
