Founded in the Tang Dynasty and rebuilt in 1684 during the reign of the Qing Dynasty’s Emperor Kangxi, this well-known 1300 years old temple was named after the famous temple on Putuo Mountain in Zhejiang Province. The South Putuo Temple was built into the mountainside, and includes the south Fujian Buddhist Academy. Founded in 1925, it is the first of its kind in China. Nanputuo Temple receives numerous visitors year around.
