The Nine Bend River, twisting through the mountains for about 10 kilometres, is the soul of Mount Wuyi. The clear and pristine stream cuts across the scenic area and heads eastward through Xingcun ("Xing Village"); the nine significant bends along the length of the river earned it its name. There are 36 peaks and 99 prominent rocks in Mount Wuyi, and the Nine Bend River connects them all as it winds, twists and turns its visitors past the scenic spots at a languid and ambling pace. Every bend comes with its own distinguishing sights and senses to seduce and fascinate those who enter its folds.
