This is New Zealand’s first botanic garden, founded in 1863 and now a six-star Garden of International Significance. Covering 30 hectares, the garden has hill views and contains over 6,800 plant species including roses, herbaceous borders and over 3,000 rhododendrons. The stunning Camellia Collection is rated a Garden of Excellence by the International Camellia Society. Plants are from Asia, the Americas, Southern Africa, the Himalayas and the Mediterranean.
