Another lovely park is Saint Omer Park, which lies on the opposite side of the lake. The lakeside area is highly regarded as a quiet place to meditate, enjoy a picnic or take a walk. The park is named in honour of Francis St Omer, an early settler and former town mayor. It was Francis who organised trees to be planted around the town. Francis was committed to the upkeep and beautification of his town. When he died in 1915, he left his entire estate to the Borough Council so his tree-planting mission could continue. The reserve also has barbecues and toilets nearby.
