Considered one of the most important buildings in the Royal Borough of Aberdeen, The Kirk of St Nicholas has been the spiritual heart of the community since its establishment in the 12th century. A place of worship and refuge, the prestigious church is both a holy site and a testament to the city’s medieval past. Archaeological excavations through the grounds have uncovered fragments of decorative stonework, and remnants of earlier structures dating back to the 15th century.  Visitors are able to view East Kirk’s excavation site from the gallery, while the rest of the Church remains open to the public.
