Place Vendôme, originating in 1702, is one of the most famous Paris squares. You'll find it in the 1st arrondissement as a monument to the glory of Louis XIV's armies. There was once an equestrian statue of Louis XIV at the center of the square, but this was destroyed during the Revolution. In 1810, a bronze column (Vendome Column) was added, featuring a statue of Napoleon I.
