Live like a sheikh in Abu Dhabi

Oct 27,2015

Between the magical minarets, gleaming domes and traditional mosques, there's a world of luxury and splendour to cherish in the richest of the seven emirates. If you've got some cash to splash, here's our guide to one of the world's most glamorous cities.
Hire a luxury yacht
How do the rich and famous live? On the water, of course. Hire one of your own and experience cruising at eight knots as you lie back safe in the hands of your experienced crew members. You'll wave at the superyachts cruising the aqua-blue waters of Yas Island, get the chance to photograph Abu Dhabi's impressive sights from the sea, and all you'll have to worry about is which champagne bottle to pop next.

Get fast and furious with Formula One

If you're an excitable adrenaline junkie with a need for speed, you won't want to miss Ferrari World Abu Dhabi on Yas Island. Better still, rush off and book a driving experience at the next-door Yas Marina Circuit. Buy yourself the ultimate racing experience in an Aston Martin GT4, or get eyeballs popping by recounting your spin in a Mercedes E63, CLS or GTS. If you want to try a spot of drag racing, the Chevrolet Camaro, as the official vehicle of the Yas Drag Racing Academy, is your perfect ride, but remember that you don't have to get behind the wheel. There are plenty of experiences for passengers too.
Perfect your putt on a golf course
Saadiyat Beach Golf Club is a world-renowned spot for golfing pros and beginners alike, but it feels extra luxurious because of its beachfront location and accompanying five-star restaurant and clubhouse. Saadiyat Beach itself serves up a white-sand view as you putt the day away, and the fresh air will wake you up even on the hottest of afternoons.

Visit the Grand Mosque

The Phantom of the Opera would weep in here, no thanks to what has to be the world's most impressive chandelier. Thousands of Swarovski crystals sparkle at you between marble columns set with mother of pearl. Named after Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan – the late President of the UAE – the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is an inspiring reminder of what money can buy if you have enough of it. If you've spent all your cash on your own Swarovski crystals, however, don't forget to take the free guided tour with a friendly local Emirati. And please don't swing on the chandelier – tempting as it may be.

Max out your credit card at Al Wahda Mall
From pearls and Rolex watches to designer clothes, you can get all your luxury goods at Al Wahda Mall – the biggest in Abu Dhabi. If you want to watch a movie in the comfort of air conditioning, you can do that here too. Even millionaires need a break sometimes.

Book a stylish stay
Luxury abounds in an abundance of glorious hotels in Abu Dhabi, and you won't be short of a five-star experience. Grand Millennium Al Wahda features a state-of-the-art health club with a rooftop swimming pool to soak up some sun. Prefer to be where all the action is? Millennium Corniche Hotel Abu Dhabi puts you in the CBD and directly in front of some of the world's most wonderful sunsets. You won't forget the views over the Arabian Gulf and the city skyline in a hurry.
