48 hours in Dubai

May 28,2015

It's the city where “shopping till you drop” goes hand in hand with luxury business hotels, beach lounging and fun in the desert sun. With 48 hours to spend in this popular stopover spot, here's what you simply can't miss in dazzling Dubai.

Day 1 AM

Breakfast or brunch like a star

Rise and shine early and head to the 25°55° Cafe Bistro at the Dubai Marina Yacht Club. A host of international dishes will satiate your hunger as you ogle at yachts on the sparkling water. If it's a Friday, however, you simply can't miss the famous Dubai brunch. Plenty of places offer extravagant affairs, including the Millennium Airport Hotel Dubai, but if you feel like getting out on the town, try the delectable spread at More Cafe, featuring everything from Eggs Benedict to fish and chips.

Day 1 PM

Suntans and sunsets

Al Mamzar Beach Park is just a short journey from your hotel and is the perfect place to lie back and digest your huge brunch. With five lovely beaches, air-conditioned cabanas and a swimming pool, you can work on your tan in comfort. When you've washed off all that sand, why not watch the sun go down with a cocktail and dinner at casual Barasti? And for those who’d like to linger, you’re more than welcome to stay and party into the night with world-class DJs.

Day 2 AM

Shop till you drop (with a twist)

You can't come to the tax-free haven of Dubai without shopping, so get up early for a stroll around the souks in Bur Dubai (smell that spice!), then have a whizz about the Mall of the Emirates while it's quiet. Here's where you can also strap on the skis or a snowboard at Ski Dubai. Don't forget to say hi to their resident penguins, or maybe even go for a swim with them?

How about combining a bit of ice-skating with your shopping mall activities at the Olympic-sized ice rink in The Dubai Mall? You might ache a bit afterwards, or just be laden down with shopping bags. If so, schedule lunch at one of the many restaurants around The Dubai Fountain, which was designed by the creators of the Fountains of Bellagio in Las Vegas and shoots water up to 500 feet in the air.

Day 2 PM

Dunes before dinner

A desert safari might be just what you need to remind you that a stopover in the Middle East isn't all about extravagance. Take an exhilarating afternoon drive out in the dunes on a bumpy buggy and stay for dinner in the desert, where you can take in a belly dancing show, munch on delicious kebabs and treat yourself to a henna tattoo for good measure. By the time you get back to your hotel, you'll be able to say you really spent your Dubai stopover in style.
