Rainbow Village, Taiwan

Taiwan is home to small veterans’ villages which were given to retired soldiers after defending their city of Taichung. Many of these villages have since been demolished and rebuilt, but this village of just four houses is special. The last resident, Mr Huang, decided to paint the houses – using bright colours to paint vivid animals, characters and patterns. Now aptly named Rainbow Village with Mr Huang nicknamed Rainbow Grandpa, it’s become a tiny hotspot for travellers to get great snaps.
