Te Manawa is Palmerston North's art, science and history museum. The history collection includes 55,000 pieces that tell the story of New Zealand's heritage, culture, background and includes taonga, which are highly regarded Maori artefacts. The art gallery honours works by New Zealand artists, with most of the collection made post-1960. The science centre focuses on hands-on, educational displays that explore all aspects of science and natural history. There are plenty of visiting exhibitions to see as well. General admission is free. Some exhibitions are paid entry.
