A must-visit in Jakarta for history buffs

Intan City Bridge, also known as Diamond City Bridge or Pasar Pasar Ayam, is the oldest bridge in Indonesia built with iron and wood in 1628 by the Dutch Colonial Government. The name of the bridge changed according to the turn of the times.
The bridge was first called Engelse Burg or "Bridge of England" which was built in 1628 because of the stronghold of British troops on the east of the bridge. In 1628-1629 the bridge was once damaged by the attack of troops Banten and Mataram. It was then rebuilt by the Dutch VOC in 1630 and renamed the "Chicken Market Bridge" or Hoenderpasarburg because of the chicken market across the Bridge for the residents of Batavia. In 1655 the bridge named Het Middelpunt Burg or "Bridge Center" when it was repaired with stone after getting damaged in the floods. During the reign of Queen Juliana, this bridge ever renamed the Bridge Queen Juliana as it underwent repairs under her patronage. After the Proclamation of Indonesian Independence the bridge was renamed the Kota Intan Bridge in accordance with the name of the local location.
