Lingyin Temple is said to be one of the ten most famous Buddhist temples of China. The name Lingyin means "Temple of the Soul's Retreat" or "Temple of Inspired Seclusion" and is an apt description of the tranquil setting. According to ancient writings, a temple has been located on this site since the time of the Eastern Jin Dynasty (317 - 420AD). The temple is visited by thousands of Buddhist and non-Buddhist locals and tourists every day.
