Millennium Hotels and Resorts to Create 'New' Hotel in Minneapolis

Investment of $20 Million to Re-invent Millennium Minneapolis by April 2013 Awarded to Local Architecture Firm
MINNEAPOLIS (September 14, 2012) --- Millennium Hotels and Resorts has announced a $20 million investment in creating a "new" hotel for the 21st century in Minneapolis. The project, scheduled for completion in April 2013, calls for the redesign and reconstruction of virtually every aspect of the existing Millennium Hotel Minneapolis.
Guestrooms and meeting space will be closed to the public from mid-December until the hotel reopens April 1, 2013, while construction on the "new" Millennium Hotel Minneapolis is underway.
Architecture and design of the project is under the direction of Minneapolis-based RSP Architects. Renovations will include all 321 guestrooms, meeting facilities, lounge and lobby areas as well as a new location and concept for the restaurant. The hotel will be outfitted with many new materials and fixtures, some of which will be sourced locally.
Major features of the project include:
- Complete refurbishment of 321 guestrooms, including new electrical and HVAC systems; Cat 6 cable for the state-of-the-art phone/TV/wireless capabilities, and new furniture and fixtures in guestrooms and bathrooms
- Creation of a new restaurant and lounge concept with a variety of seating options ranging from tables for two to four guests to lounge and bar seating
- Complete renovations of the hotel’s 22,000 square-feet of meeting/business space with all new meeting facilities equipped with the latest sound and lighting systems including three ballrooms, breakout rooms and the property's iconic 14th floor Dome
- New, repositioned front desk and lobby area, including installation of a new gas-fired, two-sided fireplace with a soft-seating lounge area created for food and cocktails as well as a "waiting" lounge, all featuring new furniture, fixtures, walls and ceilings
"In no way, does the term 'renovation' do justice to what we are undertaking at the property. The Millennium Hotel Minneapolis will be, in virtually every respect, a brand new, stylishly modern, high-design, state-of-the-art city hotel," said Robert Rivers, general manager of the Millennium Hotel Minneapolis.
The sales and marketing team will be accepting bookings for 2013 throughout the renovation period. Although these spaces will be closed during the renovation process, Millennium Minneapolis’ sales team will be excited to show a model room at any time. Corporate, meeting planners, group organizers and those organizing social events can be among the first to experience the “new” Millennium Minneapolis.
