Mother Nature has created some very unusual animals, many of them insects or reptiles.
However, some of the world's mammals can also be decidedly odd, something that is being celebrated by a new exhibition at the Chicago Field Museum.
Extreme Mammals is being hosted by the venue from May 26th 2012 until January 6th 2013, giving plenty of time for anyone who has booked a stay in a Chicago hotel to check it out.
Visitors will be able to see everything from over-sized claws and huge teeth to strange noses and amazing horns.
However, the exhibition does not leave out one of the most extreme mammals of all - people!
Extreme Mammals features models, fossils and taxidermy and covers 7,000 square feet, so you should probably aim to spend a day at the Field Museum in order to take it all in.
On June 2nd, there is also a corresponding event in the venue's grounds called the Family Field Trip, with tickets for this available separately.
Residents at the Millennium Knickerbocker Hotel Chicago can get to the Field Museum in around half an hour on the number 147 bus from Michigan and Delaware, disembarking at Congress Plaza and Michigan.
