Most people happily eat their meals without much thought about exactly how they came to be on their plates.

But more inquisitive individuals who happen to be staying at Chicago hotels this summer may be interested in attending a special exhibition at one of the city's museums, as it aims to lift the lid on some of the mysteries surrounding our nourishment.

Food: The Nature of Eating is being staged at the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum between now and September 8th and it promises to be especially interesting thanks to its interactivity.

The exhibition takes visitors on a journey from the 19th century to the present day to demonstrate how the relationship between human beings and food has affected the land, the environment and society.

A range of activities will show how produce gets from the farm to the dinner table - and how the plow changed the landscape of Illinois.

Guests at the Millennium Knickerbocker Hotel Chicago can reach the museum in just five minutes by road,  so a taxi there and back should not prove too expensive.
