For most people, the arrival of butterflies is a welcome sign of summer's long-awaited return.

More than 50 different species are resident in the US and Canada, but guests at Los Angeles hotels can increase their chances of seeing some by visiting a special exhibition at the city's Natural History Museum of.

The popular Butterfly Pavilion reopens for 2013 on April 14th and will be in situ until September 2nd, meaning there is plenty of time to go along and check it out.

A temporary show, it allows visitors to walk through different butterfly ecosystems and watch the insects interacting with plants and each other.

"See up close how butterflies use their tubular mouthparts to obtain nectar and witness caterpillars feed on leaves and go through the process of their transformation into adults," the website states.

Residents at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel Los Angeles can reach the museum in just over ten minutes in a taxi, or 20 minutes on the Dash Downtown F bus.

It also has a permanent exhibition called Insect Zoo if you can't get enough of creepy crawlies and are planning a day's visit.
