Search for the Unicorn at the Met Museum of New York
From 15 May 2013 To 18 August 2013Address
Metropolitan Museum of Art, 6 East 82nd Street, Manhattan, NY 10028
Unicorns have fascinated humans for thousands of years. The Ancient Greeks believed they were real and featured them in natural history books, while we now see them as mythical beasts only from story collections.
Guests at New York hotels can see a collection of the most famous depictions of unicorns in the world if they visit the city's Metropolitan Museum of Art between May 15th and August 18th this year.
Search for the Unicorn will feature all seven Unicorn Tapestries, which show a group of noblemen and hunters in pursuit of one of the horned animals.
Their exact history and meaning are not known - pagans believe they depict beguiled lovers, while Christians think the unicorn is a metaphor for Christ.
This exhibition will allow visitors to decide for themselves and also presents another 40 works of art based on unicorns to walk around and enjoy.
Residents of the Premier Hotel New York can get to the Met Museum to view this extraordinary artwork in just over ten minutes in a taxi.
