Brazilian dance troupe Grupo Corpo are returning to Minneapolis by popular demand in early March for a performance at the Orpheum Theatre.
Last seen in Minnesota a decade ago, the group - including internationally acclaimed choreographer Rodrigo Pederneiras - are widely credited with reinventing classical ballet by bringing in elements of more exuberant dance forms and Brazilian rhythms.
Their latest production Sem Mim, which translates as "soothe me", sees the Grupo Corpo dancers take to the stage in nude coloured unitards adorned with inscriptions from the Middle Ages.
Inspired by a medieval Galician-Portuguese songbook, the original score tells a story of women who despair at the absence and then celebrate the return of their men from sea.
Ima (Magnet), from 2009, is an exploration of the themes of attraction and repulsion set to the multi-instrumental sounds of Brazilian trio +2.
Culture vultures looking for accommodation close to the venue should book a room at the Millennium Hotel Minneapolis.
