A jazz version of The Nutcracker is to be staged in Cincinnati in the run-up to Christmas.
The classic ballet, complete with Tchaikovsky’s famous score, has long been a favourite with Ohio’s theatre-goers, including with tourists booking into Cincinnati hotels for cultural short breaks.
For 2012, however, the Jarson-Kaplan Theater, which is part of the Aronoff Center for Arts, will stage Duke Ellington’s celebrated version of the festive tale, with the audience to be treated to a 1940s big band-inspired score as well as a vibrant display of swing and be-bop dancing.
The Nutcracker Jazzed Up! will be staged from Friday November 3rd to Saturday December 1st, with matinee performances on the weekends and ticket prices starting at just $30.25.
Lovers of jazz booking into the Millennium Hotel Cincinnati are spoilt for choice when it comes to finding live music.
As well as being close to several acclaimed jazz bars, the luxury hotel is ideally placed for exploring Chicago’s famous blues joints.
