Singer-songwriter JD McPherson is due to perform a gig at Metro in Chicago on October 12th.

This forms part of his latest tour in support of his debut album Signs and Signifiers, which evokes a classic, guitar-led blues rock sound.

However, he prefers not to be burdened with labels - noting that many acts who are labelled retro, such as La Roux, are simply the product of their influences.

He underlines the fact that he has taken a similar approach to his own music - although he is more interested in the world of the swinging, visceral abandon of real rock 'n' roll.

Indeed, a host of guest musicians have been attracted to collaborate with McPherson on his debut album - and this promises to translate into a rollicking live show.

Visitors to the city would do well to book rooms at the Millennium Knickerbocker Hotel Chicago, as it is just a short drive away from the venue, which should take less than 15 minutes.
