Enjoy an unusual walking tour on Boston holidays
From 04 May 2013 To 04 May 2013Address
Mount Auburn Cemetery, 580 Mt Auburn Street, Cambridge, MA 02138
It may seem a little morbid to walk around a graveyard while on holiday, but guests at Boston hotels are likely to want to make an exception for Mount Auburn Cemetery in nearby Cambridge.
The National Historic Landmark was founded in 1831 as America's first landscaped garden burial ground and it is still one of the country's most significant designed green spaces.
Not only is it great for birdwatching and nature enthusiasts, but it is also a fantastic place for gardeners to visit thanks to its 5,500 trees.
Anyone keen to check it out could consider participating in Discover Mount Auburn: A Walking Tour on the afternoon of May 4th.
This 1.5-mile stroll will take visitors around the horticultural, architectural and natural highlights of the cemetery, as well as telling the story of its history and some of the people buried there, including poets and state governors.
Although the event is in Cambridge, it is still easy to get to for guests at the Millennium Bostonian Hotel Boston. Either drive down the I-90 West, or hop on the red line of the subway towards Alewife.
An exhibition at a museum in Boston will show how the poses of people in Renaissance paintings are significant.
