When it comes to hotels, East Side Manhattan offers a range of enticing options. Yet few accommodations are as conveniently located as ONE UN New York, formerly Millennium UN Plaza Hotel, which offers easy access to the world-famous Statue of Liberty.
The Statue of Liberty is one of the United States' most famous icons, standing 151 feet tall as a proud symbol of freedom and democracy. It was gifted by the French to commemorate the United States' Independence from British colonial rule, and one of the first sights glimpsed by immigrants when they arrived by boat.
Today, the Statue of Liberty still stands tall as one of America's biggest and most unique landmarks. To reach the Lady of Liberty, visitors must travel by ferry from Battery Park to Liberty Island. Once on the island, visitors walk down the tree-lined stretch to the base, and are greeted by the original torch that was removed during the 1980's renovation. Enter the observatory located inside the base for stunning and majestic views of New York, including the magnificent harbor.
Ferry tickets can be bought from Castle Clinton, but it is best to book tickets in advance. There are only a limited number of tickets available per day, and they are offered on a first-come-first-served basis. There is also a screening procedure before admission to the Island, so visitors should schedule more time to allow for this.
