Anyone staying in a New York hotel during November, who likes things that go bump in the night, should check out the New York Horror Festival, which will be scaring up some frights in October.

Held at Tribeca Cinemas across lower Manhattan from November 12th to 16th, the festival consists of various screenings of new and classic horror films, as well as talks, guest appearances, giveaways and parties.

Writing on the festival's official website, programming director Joseph Mauceri said: "We are working feverishly to give the films, filmmakers and industry an excellent 2008 show."

The festival shows between 50 and 60 films every year, and even has its own awards ceremony, recognising films in a variety of categories, including features, shorts, screenplay, cinematography and special effects.

Each year, the New York Horror Festival also presents a lifetime achievement award, which has been received by such notable scaremongers as Roger Corman, Tobe Hooper and George Romero.
