The Statue of Liberty is one of the United States most famous icons that have become synonymous with the country around the world. Lady Liberty stands 151 feet off the ground atop its magnificent base structure standing as a proud symbol of freedom and democracy. The Lady was originally the first sight glimpsed by immigrants to the United States when they arrived by boat. Today the Statue of Liberty still stands tall as one of America’s biggest and most unique landmarks. The statue was gifted by the French to commemorate the United States’ Independence from British colonial rule.

To visit the Statue of Liberty visitors need to take the ferry from Battery Park to get to Liberty Island. Once on the island you’ll walk down the long impressive stretch that is bordered by a lovely tree line on either side with Lady Liberty herself visible in the distance.

As soon as you enter the base you’ll be greeted by the original torch that was removed during the renovation was undertaken in the 1980’s. Guests can visit the promenade at the base of the statue and can enter the observatory located inside the base. From here stunning and majestic views of New York City and the harbor can be seen.

Ferry tickets can be bought from Castle Clinton which was once a fortress built to defend against British attacks. If you’re planning to visit the Statue of Liberty, it is best to book your tickets in advance as there are only a limited number of tickets that are available per day that can be bought on a first come first served basis from the Ferry Office.

Guests should also note that there is a screening procedure before anyone is allowed onto the Island and should schedule more time. During peak seasons the wait can take a few hours. Access to the Liberty Island itself is free but a ticket is required in order to access the base of the Statue, its observation levels and the Museum Gallery.

As a hotel in Midtown New York City that is close to the Statue of Liberty, Millennium UN Plaza Hotel offers some of the best views in Midtown Manhattan in addition to convenient access to Lady Liberty.
