The Sky Harbour Airport is located three miles from the Central Business District of Phoenix and
is Arizona’s main international airport. Impressive in scale, it is also the ninth busiest airport
in terms of passenger traffic. The airport serves more than 100,000 passengers a day and records an
average of 1,500 flights per day.
The airport itself consists of three terminals despite their names being terminals 2, 3, and
4. The original terminal that was named Terminal 1 was demolished but the other terminals were
never renamed. The terminals themselves are extremely large and were constructed at an immense cost
as is typical with state of the art airport facilities, but the terminals do ensure that visitors
have all the amenities and comforts while traveling.
The terminals themselves are also spacious and feature a range of the latest technology that
serves to ensure that those who pass through have a comfortable experience at the airport. Visitors
to the airport travel between the terminals via the free shuttle bus service that is provided.
The airport also features various shops that present visitors with a range of items.
Everything from news items, souvenirs, sunglasses and watches, golf accessories and more can all be
found throughout the different terminals. A large offering of varied dining options are also on
offer presenting everything from small eateries to proper restaurants.
Phoenix Sky Harbour Airport also houses a museum that offers a variety of different artworks
and sculptures to be viewed. One of the largest airport museums in the United States, it serves to
showcase a unique offering of Arizona’s culture and heritage. This museum is not some after thought
that was added in at a later date but actually spans six different buildings at three different
airports. The airport itself is spread out over three locations in the Phoenix area and has
branches at Deer Valley and Goodyear. As a result the museum also has two sub branches at both of
these auxiliary airports.
Currently the airport's collection includes a large and impressive range of art that consists
of more than 500 pieces of artwork. The museum’s goal is to showcase the spirit of Arizona through
the various paintings that are displayed here and with a collection that is ever increasing even
the most ardent art critic will not be disappointed. In addition to its permanent collection the
museum also hosts exhibitions that feature various visiting pieces of art brought in from other
museums.
