Yacht racing is a truly unique event in that it combines the beauty and elegance of the white-sailed vessels with the excitement of watching the skilled crews manoeuvre their boats.

This year's Phuket King's Regatta promises to be the most spectacular the city has ever hosted - as it is celebrating its 25th anniversary.

Beginning in 1987 to celebrate the 60th birthday of His Majesty the King of Thailand, the event has gone from strength to strength each year since and has become of one the most popular events on the calendar for people staying in Phuket hotels.

Held at the end of the year, the 2012 festival starts on 3rd December with the boats arriving at the port to be measured and registered.

But it is on 5th December when things really start to get exciting, with the first races kicking off.

Each day, different classes of boats compete with each other to take the coveted winner's place on the podium and be one of the teams to get an honour in the royal awards ceremony, taking place on 10th December.
