Holidaymakers travelling to Millennium Broadway Hotel New York may be interested to know that the college football season has just started.

Although Britons may not be well versed in the rules of the game, the Examiner's Derrick Edwards suggests heading down to a New York bar to check out what is a very fun sport.

He said that bars are best for soaking up the spectator atmosphere, while also being able to ask the locals what is going on.

Mr Edwards particularly recommends Down the Hatch on West 4th Street for its deals on food and drink, as well as its fraternity atmosphere.

ESPN Zone and Overlook Bar are also highlighted, with the latter tipped for its more mature, laid-back feel.

"Go out and enjoy watching the ole' pigskin and some great hits!" the expert concluded.

College football is played by teams of student athletes from universities, colleges and military academies and the season traditionally starts one week before the National Football League's.
