Visitors to the Millennium Broadway Hotel New York this week may have spotted a familiar face on the Great White Way in the form of Boris Johnson.

The London Mayor headed across the pond to celebrate the relationship between London's West End and the Big Apple's Broadway and decided to check out Billy Elliot while he was there.

He met the cast of the production - which moved to America after incredible success at home and scooped a massive ten Tony Awards earlier in 2009 - at the Imperial Theatre.

A number of musicals have also transferred to the West End from Broadway, including Wicked and Avenue Q.

Meanwhile, for tourists hoping to check out another family-friendly play while in New York, Mary Poppins could be the answer.

It is currently being staged nearly every day at the city's New Amsterdam Theatre and has been praised by critics including those from the New York Post and USA Today
