The Metropolitan Museum of Art is one of the numerous attractions that are housed across from the famous Central Park. Located on the eastern edge of Central Park, the museum has a collection of over 2,000 works of art that are on permanent display. The building located across from the park is known as the Met, and is the primary structure, while another secondary structure that houses only medieval art is located at ‘The Cloisters’, which is located at Fort Tryon Park in Northern Manhattan. To learn more about the museum, please visit www.metmuseum.org.

The main museum also houses a collection of medieval art as well as a wide range of pieces from around the world. The American Decorative Arts section has grown since its inception in roughly 1909. It has always had a special emphasis on collecting art from America and features some of the best paintings ever created in the country.

The Arts and Armor section is one of the most popular sections in the museum featuring a range of decorative and actual armor sets from cultures around the world. The section strongest in its collection is the late medieval European and Japanese pieces made between the fifth and nineteenth centuries.

Beyond the other culturally specific sections in the museum that include Egyptian, European, Greek, Roman and Islamic Art the museum also has an entire wing dedicated to Robert Lehman. Robert Lehman was a banker and avid art collector, and upon his death his Foundation donated a figure close to 3,000 pieces of art. This collection includes over 6 decades of art and is the only department that does not cater to a specific style but rather to the tastes of Robert Lehman. Its interiors were also designed to mimic the interior of Lehman’s tower where the pictures were originally housed.

Guests of Millennium Broadway can visit the Metropolitan Museum of Art and discover the impressive array of art that is on offer at this renowned art venue.
