Millennium Maxwell House Nashville is a hotel near the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum in
Nashville. The museum showcases the rich history of country music and functions as an
educational institute seeking to educate its visitors about the history of Country Music. The
museum attempts to achieve this goal through a variety of different exhibits that feature pictures,
video footage, actual songs and more.
The museum has several exhibits and collections that cover a range of areas and topics
related to country music. The primary permanent exhibit at the museum is “Sing Me Back Home – A
Journey Through Country Music” This collection features photographs, artifacts, original
recordings, archival video and newly produced films, interactive media, and text panels to convey
the history of country music.
The exhibit covers two floors of the museum and begins to tell the story of country music’s
pre-commercial origins right up to its modern day presence. This story is told in a chronological
order and moves through large subjects such as “Country During the War Years”, while at the same
time each glass artifact conveys its own theme.
Visitors to the museum can learn the story of country music by reading the various
descriptions, looking at photos and videos or by simply hearing the music as it is played at
certain exhibits.
Another interesting venue at the museum is The Hall of Fame Rotunda which is a room that was
designed to pay tribute to its members but treat all of its original members equally. This equal
status is reflected in the circular structure of the room which means that all members’ positions
are relative to each other. The plaques of members are placed randomly around the room while newer
members are placed next to Thomas Hart Benton’s painting entitled “The Sources of Country Music”.
One of the other most significant exhibits in the museum is the one dedicated to Kitty Wells.
Wells was the pioneering female vocalist in the country music genre and it was after her that
several others followed. Through her illustrious career Wells earned a Grammy Lifetime Achievement
Award. Guests to the exhibit dedicated to this singer can learn about her life and musical career
through a range of photos, artifacts, vintage film, sheet music, concert posters and more.
Another major exhibition in the museum is the one dedicated to the Williamses. This
impressive exhibition examines the lives of Hank Williams and Hank Williams JR. as well as their
significant contribution to country music. This exhibit tells the story of how even modern day
country music is influenced and measured by the standards that they set. The tale is told through a
huge array of never seen before artifacts and other items donated by the Williamses.
