Downtown Los Angeles is the area that is bounded by the Los Angeles River to the east, Route 101 to the North, the 10 Santa Monica to the south and the 110 Harbor Freeway to the west. While this is the traditional boundary, some tend to go beyond this scope and include other areas such as the University Park, Exposition Park, and Central City West.

The vibrant downtown Los Angeles is also home to several pieces of architecture that should not be missed from old favorites such as the Bradbury Building and the Broadway theaters to newer entrants like the Walt Disney Concert Hall which all contribute towards Los Angeles’ exciting cityscape.

The Bradbury Building is the oldest commercial structure still standing in Downtown and features a very modest interior that sharply contrasts with its interior. Visitors who step inside the building will find a five story skylight with open cage elevators, marble stairs, suspended mail chutes and more unique items.

The Walt Disney Concert Hall is also located in Downtown LA and offers a very unique architectural style that has received polarized opinions. The hall is also the home of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra and if visitors are lucky they can catch a performance of this highly reputable Orchestra.  The hall has been praised for its fantastic acoustics that present one of the best listening experiences in the world.

Downtown LA is the area with the highest concentration of museums in the city. The Museum of Contemporary Art itself has two branches in the area, and visitors to Exposition Park can access the Natural History Museum and the California African American Museum. Visitors to downtown LA can find specialized museums including the Japanese American National Museum, the Chinese American National Museum and more.

Staples Center, located downtown, is home to five professional level teams from the NBA, WNBA, AFL and NHL. This venue is also used for various musical performances that in the past have included high profile artists such as Prince, Madonna and Rod Stewart to name a few.

Various tours are on offer in Downtown LA that cater to a variety of different interests including architecture, history, art and more. These tours cover a range of destinations in this high profile area of the city.

Tickets for the various museums can be purchased onsite, while at certain museums those with a student Id can enjoy special discounts. Tickets for the various events at the Staples Center can be purchased from the onsite ticket booths or various Ticket master outlets as well as through Ticketmaster’s online website.
