Indonesia's vibrant capital Jakarta is home to trendy designers,
large scale shopping malls and a wide range of local and
international restaurants that have contributed to the creation of
the Jakarta Fashion and Food Festival. A celebration of fashion and
food, this annually held event attracts a large number of local and
foreign visitors and is ideal for those wanting to experience more
modern Jakarta festivals.
Is it a Jakarta Fashion Festival? Is it
a Jakarta Food Festival? It is two in one, so you can
enjoy the best of both worlds.
Inaugurated in 2004, the Jakarta Fashion and Food Festival takes place at Summarecon, Kelapa Gading and has a special theme each year that focuses on certain elements. Past themes include "Colours of Harmony", "The New Exotics" and "Inculturation" which focused on harnessing traditional knowledge to create something new.
Hot models, cool styles
The "Fashion Extravaganza" part of the festival showcases some of Indonesia's hottest models strutting the runway and modelling designs from both established and up and coming designers from the local fashion scene. Working together with such partners as the Indonesian Fashion Designers Association (IPMI) and the Association of Indonesian Fashion Designers and Entrepreneurs (APPMI), festival organisers have also used this event to honour and encourage those in the industry by giving out such awards as the "Fashion Icon Awards" and the "Gading Fashion Entrepreneurship Awards".
Culinary highlights
The food aspect of the festival deals with the various culinary
delights Indonesia has to offer, the highlight being "Kampoeng
Tempo Doeloe" where visitors can sample a wide range of traditional
food amidst an old village setting. Enjoyed by connoisseurs and
foodies alike, the Wine and Cheese Expo is another popular event
which has been held at past editions of the Jakarta Fashion and
Food Festival.
