If you're a big baseball fan, choosing one of the hotels near the Great American Ball Park such
as the Millennium Hotel Cincinnati will allow you to catch a game or visit the grand stadium to be
enthralled in the numerous pieces of baseball history on display.
The Great American Ball Park is a beautiful stadium nestled in the heart of Cincinnati and is
home to the city’s Major League Baseball team, the Cincinnati Reds.
Constructed to replace the Cincinnati’s original stadium, the Great American Ball Park
features numerous technological and artistic touches. The Pepsi Power Stacks located in the stands
area are reminiscent of the steamboats that were common on the Ohio River in the nineteenth and
early twentieth centuries. The stack responds to positive performances of the home team, emitting
smoke whenever an opposing team’s batter is struck out, and launching fireworks whenever the Red’s
score a homerun or win a game.
Another interesting feature is “The Gap.” This break in the stands between home plate and
first base provides views of the skyline for those inside the stadium and provides glimpses in to
the ballpark from the buildings outside the stadium.
The Great American Ballpark is also home to the third largest scoreboard in MLB and features
several statues and monuments that pay homage to the sport. The Spirit of Baseball is a limestone
statue that represents the romantic aspect of the game. Impressively standing 50 feet tall and 20
feet wide this monument depicts a young boy holding a baseball bat, while above him in the clouds
are a batter, catcher and fielder.
This ballpark also has more than one attraction that pays homage to the stars of the past.
Visitors to the stadium can find statues of the old Crosley Field’s stars playing an immortalized
game of baseball as well as a mosaic that pays tribute to two of the parks’ greatest teams; the
1869 Red Stockings (MLB’s first professional team) and the 1975 Big Red Machine (won two of the
first consecutive World Series) are honored in this grand mosaic. In addition there are also
several other nods to baseball history throughout the Great American Ball Park that should not be
missed when visiting the stadium including the Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame and Museum. The Hall of
Fame offers the chance to celebrate the history of the Red’s baseball team through galleries and
extensive multimedia facilities.
Tickets can be procured onsite at the stadium box office which is open on gamedays from 9 am
until the end of the seventh inning on Monday’s through Sundays. On non gamedays Monday to Fridays
from 9 am till 5 pm and 10 am till 4pm on Saturdays. Another ticket office also exists on the North
Side of the park but it opens only on gamedays two hours before gametime and it closes at the end
of the third ending. Tickets can also be obtained from
