Locations & Attractions|Michigan Avenue ShoppingMichigan Avenue is home to Chicago’s most loved shopping destination – The Magnificent Mile. This Chicago hotel is near Michigan Avenue's roughly one mile stretch between Oak Street and Chicago River has a mind blowing 3.1 million square feet of retail space, featuring some of the world’s finest designers, popular department stores and local retail establishments. What is great about shopping on Michigan Avenue is the sheer density of quality shopping. The North Michigan area is home to a number of shopping malls interspersed with great restaurants and luxury boutique establishments. Even if you are not an avid shopper, the tree lined sidewalks complete with colorful flower beds make for an interesting and relaxed stroll. Most shoppers start off at Oak Street at the northern most end of the avenue, this section is largely dominated by designer labels and luxury items. Further down the street popular designer brands such as Giorgio Armani, American Girl and Ralph Lauren provide a wide selection of stores to shop to your hearts content. Further along Michigan Avenue is “The Loop” –one of the more mainstream areas for shopping in Chicago, it features clothing chains and restaurants. Michigan Avenue shopping also includes the less glamorous but equally interesting shopping areas of Jewelers Street, River North, Armitage Avenue, Southport Avenue, Bucktown, West Division Street and Lincoln Park. These areas are home to retail clothing chains and a few local shops targeting niche markets such as Alley and Tragically Hip. Being one of the Chicago hotels near Michigan Avenue, Millennium Knickerbocker Hotel Chicago provides its guests with easy access to the variety of shopping options offered in this area.
