Discover the beautiful and graceful motion of Niagara Falls as the pristine water cascades down
the rock ledges. Niagara Falls is actually two different waterfalls that are on the border between
the Canadian province of Ontario and the State of New York in the United States. The two falls are
known as
American Falls
and
Horseshoe Falls.
Horseshoe Falls is the most famous out of the two and is by far the largest on
the Canadian side. This gigantic waterfall features a drop of 173 feet or 53 meters.
American Falls
is not as large and features only a 70 foot or 21 meter drop.
American Falls
actually features another smaller fall on its corner that is known today as Bridal Veil Falls, but
its width is extremely small compared to the other two main falls.
Visitors to this attraction can bask in the true power of nature as this formation was
created purely by the powerful force of water eroding rock. It is actually possible to walk right
up to the base of the Niagara Falls during the
Cave of the Winds tour and feel the mist all around. The tour begins with a
175 foot elevator ride in to the
Niagara Gorge and from there visitors follow wooden walkways to the
Hurricane Deck. On this deck visitors can feel the spray of water on
their skin in pseudo tropical storm like conditions as the water of the falls crashes down all
around them. Visiting the
Hurricane Deck at night provides an even more unique experience to the falls.
Spotlights illuminate the path to the hurricane deck creating a rainbow of color.
One tour involves guests being taken in the
Maid of the Mist (a
boat) right up to the base of the falls where guests can actually be surrounded by the falling
water. To avoid getting wet guests are provided with a souvenir rain poncho. This tour is the only
way to actually bask in the waters of Niagara Falls.
A visit to Niagara Falls wouldn’t be complete without a stop at the
Visitor Center. The center offers guests the chance to pick up a souvenir as
well as maps and information about the falls themselves. Housed in the center are several
restaurants that serve specialty coffees, ice creams and more. The center has a lush floral garden
featuring plant life grown in interesting shapes that can be explored as well as a
walkway that follows the path of the Niagara River.
Niagara Falls offers the
Adventure Theater that presents a 40 minute show entitled ‘Niagara: Legends of
Adventure”. This IMAX presentation shown on a 45 foot screen showcases an exciting journey of the
original explorers and settlers of the Niagara Falls area.
Guests can travel by a
scenic trolley that goes through some of the highlights of the surrounding
park, Goat Island. The ride provides the opportunity to get an overview of the park in 30 minutes
as a guide presents various information about each area. Guests can choose to stop at each of the
six stops and explore the attraction.
Beyond these attractions visitors to the park can visit the Niagara Gorge
Discovery Center that presents a variety of information about the area through
interactive exhibits and allows for climbing a 26 foot rock wall that simulates the walls of the
gorge.
Dining options are available as the surrounding area is home to several restaurants and
hotels. Niagara Falls itself presents dining options such as at The
Top of the Falls Restaurant that offers a grand experience with fantastic
views of the falls as guests enjoy scrumptious cuisine. Visitors can find a variety of concessions
stands throughout the park.
Getting to these magnificent and powerful Wonders of the World is not difficult as guests can
travel by car, train or even by plane from the Buffalo Niagara International Airport. The airport
is easily accessible from the
Millennium Hotel Buffalo, a Buffalo, NY hotel
near Niagara Falls, which provides a quick and hassle free means of visiting this grand
destination.
