The Boston North End is a place of history, vibrant culture, great food and interesting people. Widely regarded as being the oldest residential neighborhood in Boston it has almost 400 years of history with some of Boston’s wealthiest residents settling here in the 1630’s. Though the area gained fame as an upper class suburb at the outset it later became a poor community constituted mostly by freed black slaves. Though it is one of the earliest settlements in Boston, much of the North End architecture belongs to the 19th and 20th centuries.  Among some interesting architectural works are the Old North Church, the Paul Revere House, the Clough House and the Pierce-Hichborn House which are representative of the varied tapestry of American design.
