Bird lovers from all over will be gathering in Haines, Alaska, between November 5th and 9th for
the 14th annual Alaska Bald Eagle Festival, a celebration of the largest gathering of bald eagles
anywhere in the world.
Hosted at the American Bald Eagle Foundation museum in Haines, the festival is made up of
wildlife workshops, tours, classes and live raptor presentations.
There are also daily bus rides to the Alaska Bald Eagle Preserve, where the annual "gathering
of the eagles" can be observed.
This wondrous event involves the return of over 3,000 eagles to the region around the
preserve, where they feed on salmon. There are also evening entertainments held throughout the
festival.
Anyone wishing to attend this event and catch a rare sight of a congregation of bald eagles
should book accommodation at an Alaskan hotel.
The bald eagle is the national bird and symbol of the United States. The North American bird
of prey can be found in Alaska, Canada, the US and north Mexico.
The bird of prey prefers habitats near the sea, rivers, large lakes and other open bodies of
water with a fish.
