During your visit to our hotel in Anchorage, be sure to visit the Anchorage Museum at Rasmuson
Center. The Anchorage Museum at Rasmuson Center is the largest museum in Alaska that houses a
variety of art and cultural exhibits that relate to the region. With very humble origins, the
museum featured only a small borrowed collection of Alaskan art that was managed by two employees
when it originally opened in 1968. Since then the museum has grown vastly in size.
Today two permanent exhibitions in the museum are ‘Anchorage 1910 – 1935’ and ‘Art of the
North’. ‘Anchorage 1910 - 1935’ allows visitors to view photographs and read stories of the
Anchorage residents who molded the community in to what it is today. ‘Art of the North’ on the
other hand showcases life in Alaska, landscape paintings, works by contemporary Alaskan artists,
and early views of Alaska. This collection consists of seven galleries that are located on the
ground floor of the museum. Beyond these permanent exhibits, the museum hosts a range of different
collections that vary in theme that often come from other museums and can represent cultures from
all over the world.
Guests can also visit the Anchorage Museum Shop that sells a variety of items including
accessories, audio materials, crafts, art, stationery and more. The shop even has an online
presence so that guests can order from their homes should they not wish to carry the goods they
purchase by hand. The museum also features a café that offers lunch, desserts and coffee.
