Keen fishermen may wish to book a stay at the Millennium Alaskan Hotel Anchorage in order to make the most of waterways crowded with fish.

This is according to the Anchorage Daily News, which said that many people opt to fish in the early summer and do not realise there is as much opportunity in the early autumn.

"Fishing just gets better and better right through ice-up. People just put their rods away and it's a huge mistake," fishing guide Jim McCormick told the publication.

The newspaper goes on to encourage people to take a fishing trip in the largest US state in order to capitalise on a ready supply of of fish, as well as the beautiful and colourful September scenery.

According to the Alaska Outdoors Supersite, angling is great in the region thanks to strong salmon runs and good conditions for halibut, with grayling, rainbow trout and northern pike also easy to catch.
