Take an insightful journey in to the culture and history of Kuwait at its National Museum. Being
the first museum that was created in Kuwait, it seeks to reflect the traditions, history and
culture of the nation. It also boasts one of the most impressive collections of Islamic Art in the
world.
Before even delving in to the rich variety of items that are held here, visitors will notice
that the structure that houses the array of artifacts is an impressive sight in itself.
The origin of the museum stems from the private residence of Sheikh Ahmed Al Jaber Al Sabah
which was converted to become the first building of the museum. Eventually as the need for extra
space became more pressing, further buildings were acquired including the former residence of Al
Badr family.
Visitors to the Kuwait National Museum will find that it features four buildings which are
connected to one another by means of a lovely central garden. It is for this reason that the sight
of the Kuwait National Museum is a picturesque one.
One of the four blocks is reserved for purely administrative functions but also features an
auditorium. The permanent exhibitions of the museum are all displayed in the other three sections
and present visitors an insightful glimpse in to the past of Kuwait.
The museum also features a planetarium allowing visitors to gaze in to and learn about the
stars and planet.
The museum's impressive collection was actually looted during the Iraqi invasion that took
place in the early 1990's but since then the museum has managed to recover a significant part of
its collection.
Another interesting feature of the museum is that an aluminum space frame covers the inner
garden and parts of some of the buildings creating an internal micro climate.
Being an exceptional choice amongst
luxury hotels in Kuwait City, guests of
Al
Jahra Copthorne Hotel and Resort not only will enjoy convenient access to the museum but also a
range of amenities during their stay.
