The joyous Hala Festival which heralds the arrival of spring is one of the major festivals in Kuwait. This month long festival is of special significance for Kuwaitis as the National Day and Liberation Day of the nation of Kuwait fall in this very special month.

At this time of the year the desert sands of the Gulf nation are transformed into a glistening green expanse with vividly coloured blooms and thriving vegetation. Migratory birds and animals who make their seasonal migration arrive in numbers adding to the allure of the environs.

Residents of all ages participate in the revelry, with an array of special fun-filled events on the calendar including shopping carnivals, cultural festivals and many attractive contests and raffles. There is a spontaneous outburst of joy amongst young and old as the nation celebrates its unity and independence. There are innumerable well organised festivities and enjoyable activities with musical parties, attractive discounts and special offers in the shopping districts, daily prizes, variety shows and folk art exhibitions. Traditional Kuwaiti dancers take to the streets showing off their customary attire and age-old dancing skills. Many special sporting events are conducted in the country, with international and local level contests held in a variety of sports.

Tourists are especially welcome at this time of the year and are encouraged to join in the entertainment and cultural extravaganza. Many thousands of Kuwaiti residents and foreign visitors take to the streets during the colourful pageant, as the citizens of the nation celebrate their love for their country. There is no better time to visit the country than this time of national pride.
