Jakarta is a huge, vibrant city with so much to see and do, but one of the most interesting places to visit is the Gereja Sion, which is located near the Kota train station.

This is the oldest remaining church in Jakarta and dates from 1695.

It is sometimes called Gereja Portugis (Portuguese Church) as it was built outside the old city walls for the slaves captured from Portuguese trading ports in India and Malaysia.

While the outside of the church is very plain, the inside is extremely beautiful.

It has much to look at, including copper chandeliers, a baroque pulpit and the church's original organ.

So when you've had enough of the vibrant nightlife and hustle-bustle of this exciting city, don't just relax in your Jakarta hotel, take a trip to Kota train station and visit the Gereja Sion.
