The
Sunda Kelapa port was initially built more than 450 years ago on the location of an earlier
settlement created as a result of the local trade in pepper.
The
Sunda Kelapa you see today was constructed in the early 1600s when Portuguese merchants
created a trading station in collaboration with the Pajajaran Kingdom which controlled the area at
the time.
Today the port is still used by traditional seafaring vessels, and visitors will be
enthralled by the sight of the handsome boats anchored there. While a popular tourist attraction,
Sunda Kelapa port is still an important commercial area with corporate complexes and
offices.
