Presidential Palace

The Presidential Palace is a state-owned palace complex in Jakarta.
The palace was originally constructed in 1873.

After Indonesia finally gained its independence in 1949, the palace was renamed Istana Merdeka, meaning The Palace of Freedom.

Today, the Presidential Palace is frequently used to host state events.
The annual Independence Day ceremony is always celebrated in grand style at the palace.

Occasionally the Palace is open to the public.
