The Philippines enjoys a diverse and vibrant culture which
is apparent in such creative fields as art, music, dance and
theatre. Created in order to preserve these traditions, the
Cultural Center of the Philippines encourages local
artists and fosters their talents, while at the same time giving
visitors a chance to enjoy performances traditional and modern
alike.
Opened in 1969, the Cultural Center of the Philippines or
CCP began by hosting the musical Dularawan and has since then
showcased an eclectic range of local and international
performances.
Dance, music, theatre and more
Ballet Philippines and the Bayanihan Philippine National
Folk Dance Company are among the dance companies one will find
here. Tanghalang Pilipino represents the field of theatre, while
the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra is one of the musical groups
that reside in CCP.
The Cultural Center of the Philippines also showcases work
in the fields of visual arts and literature as well as more modern
mass media and seeks to encourage young artists through seminars,
workshops and competitions.
Galleries and a museum
Within this expansive center one will find several venues
that host the many performances that take place each year. With a
seating capacity for 1,823 people, Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo is
the CCP's main theatre, while it also has several galleries and its
own museum with a variety of exhibits.
Ideal for both business and leisure travellers, The Heritage
Hotel Manila is conveniently located only around 1.25 miles (2km)
from the Cultural Center of the Philippines.
